Oral Questions Flashcards
Takeoff alternate
Listed if wx conditions at departure airport are below PIC landing mins. Within one hour, one engine inop, still air, 280 NM (XR), 250 NM (LR). Based on worst case scenario (MATOW, FL 150, ISA+20, bleeds on, deice on)
Basic Operating Weight (BOW)
Total weight of aircraft, crew, fixed ballast, unusual engine fuel, full oil, and full hydraulic fluid.
Burn fuel
Fuel from departure to destination (takeoff, cruise, descent, approach, 10 NM for vectors)
Holding fuel
For anticipated delays. Calculated at 42 lbs a min.
ALTN Burn
Fuel required from overhead the destination airport to the most distant alternate. (Takeoff, Cruise, Descent, Missed Approach, 5 NM vectors)
Missed APP
Fuel to fly a missed approach. Accounted for in ALTN BURN. If no alternate is listed 600 lbs will be listed. Go around burn is 100 lbs/min until leveled off.
Extra fuel
FUEL/TO - TAXI - MIN/TO =
FIN DIVERT
Fuel from overhead destination to the most distant alternate, plus 30 mins. (1206 lbs) ALTN BURN plus 30 mins. Must divert.
DIVERT
Fuel required from overhead the destination airport to the most distant alternate, plus 45 mins. (ALTN BURN + RESERVE)
MIN/TO
Minimum fuel which must be on onboard prior to becoming airborne. (BHARM)
Burn Holding Alternate burn Reserve Missed approach
When is an amended release required?
- Alternate forecast wx goes below derived alternate mins at AETA.
- Diversion to an alternate not listed on release.
- New MEL/CDL/NEF.
- Aborted takeoff.
- Flight interruptions (RTG, RTF)
- Change of PIC/SIC
- Actual cruise altitude changes to an altitude not listed on TLR performance.
- When only fuel/to is changed.
- Route changes (SID, STAR, etc.)
- Anything else deemed necessary.
Amended release content:
- Chronological amendment number.
- Statement of the amendment.
- Time.
- Dispatcher initials.
Types of EFP’s: Standard, simple-special, and complex special.
Standard: typical FRA is 1000 ft. Climb straight to 1000 AFE and turn to specific heading.
Simple-special:
- Climb via: turns can be made as low as 50ft.
- Non-STD turn: turns can be made below 1000 AFE.
- Non-STD FRA: In VMC comply until 1000 AFE. I’m IMC comply with simple-special until 3000 AFE if radar vectors not provided.
Complex special: when too complex for simple-special table and/or other considerations must be taken. Published in 10-7 pages.
When is single engine taxi not permitted?
A: anti-ice is required.
S: Slippery or more than 15% of ramp contaminated by ice, snow, slush.
H: Any electric Hyd pump function is inop.
Static takeoff will be conducted when…
CWASP18
C: Contaminated runway. W: Windshear advisories in effect. A: Antiskid inop. S: Slippery runway. P: Performance data says T/O or E T/O required. 18: Flaps 18 takeoffs.
Crosswind limitations.
Good: 30 knts Good-medium: 25 knts Medium: 20 knts Medium-poor: 20 knts Poor: 10knts
Method 1 Driftdown
Begins at V1 and ends at destination.
Ensures obstruction clearance 5sm either side of intended route by 1000ft.
Enroute: actual altitude 6000’ over highest obstruction.
Destination: 6500’ above destination.
Climb gradient of 1.1% enroute and 1500’ above destination.
When is an alternate needed?
11246 stupid bmw
1: 1-2-3 rule.
1: Exemption 17347
2: Method 2 drift down.
4: Low Vis (4000 RVR) or 3/4 SM
6: 60/60 (dry) & 115% wet
S: supplemental
T: Takeoff
U: Uncontrolled
P: PIC discretion
I: international
D: Delays (known)
B: Braking
M: Marginal
W: Wind
Engine start abort criteria
- no light off within 10 seconds after first fuel flow indication.
- FF drops to 0 PPH immediately after light off.
- Hot start.
- Hung start (n2 steady or decreases for 5 secs)
- Unusual noise or vibrations.
- Engine instruments indicate indicate abnormal conditions.
- Visible burning from exhaust pipe.
- Oil pressure doesn’t reach at least 34 PSI after engine reaches stabilized idle.
Inhibition logic.
Takeoff: starts at V1-15 and ends at 400 ft or 1 min.
Landing: starts at 200 ft and ends 1 min after passing 200 ft or after weight on wheels.
Accessory drive gear box
Mechanically linked to N2 compressor via tower shaft.
Components:
- Fuel pump and metering unit (FPMU)
- oil pump
- hydraulic pump
- 2 (engine driven) electric generators
- permanent magnetic alternator (PMA)
- Air turbine starter
Tower shaft designed to shear in the event of a pump seizure causing engine shutdown.
Touchdown protection.
Inhibits brake actuation before the main wheels spin up to 50 knts and after 3 seconds of touchdown.
Needed to operate in RVSM.
- 2 primary altitude measuring systems. (Cannot use standby)
- 1 AP with altitude hold mode operative.
- 1 altitude alerter.
- 1 transponder.
