Oral Landmarks Flashcards
What is the Hamular notch
A notch positioned where the maxilla joins the pterygoid process of the spehnoid bone, located far ends of the vibrating line almost
what is the Maxillary tuberosity
Bulge behind maxillary 2nd molars
what is the vibrating line
where the hard and the soft palate meet
what is the palatine fovea
sits right behind the vibrating line and is involved in the gagging reflex
what is the Palatine raphe
Line that runs down the centre of the hard palate
what is the Palatine rugae
Wrinkles at the side of the hard palate
what is the Incisive papilla
Elevation of tissue behind the front teeth
What are the maxilla landmarks
Hamular notch, Maxillary tuberosity, vibrating line, palatine fovea, Palatine raphe, Palatine rugae, Incisive papilla
What are the mandibular landmarks
Pear-shaped pad, retromolar pad, buccal shelf, mandibular tori, mmylohyoid ridge, pterygomandibular raphe
What is the pear-shaped pad
Scarred-keratinised tissue after the removal of the most distal molar, shaped like a pear almost
What is the retromolar pad
Elevation distal to mandibular 2nd molar thats non-keratinised, extension of the pear-shaped pad
What is the buccal shelf
Area between the buccal frenulum and anterior border of masseter
Mandibular tori
Abnormal bony prominence
Mylohyid ridge
lingual surface of mandible
