Oral Final Flashcards
Define Leg 1
Spiritual: If it aligns with the methodologies of the Bible
Good and Bad example of Leg 1
Good: Gifts of the spirit
Bad: false prophecy/prophet, when we go off on our own leading and will (not aligned with the Bible), HG countdown
Define Leg 2
Rationale: With God’s help, we make a decision about how we use tradition and Scripture in our lives. Rationale leads us to seek answers to our own questions and to grow spiritually. Most heresy starts with “I have a new revelation.”
Good and Bad example of Leg 2
Good: historical context
Bad: A man dressing as a woman and thinking it’s okay to identify as a female.
Define Leg 3
Tradition: The embodiment of our experience as Christians throughout the centuries. The heart of our tradition is expressed through the Bible, the Creeds, the Sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and Baptism, and the ordained ministry passed on by Christ to his Church. Apostolic traditions are wonderful because they’re Biblical.
Good and Bad example of Leg 3
Good: Baptism in Jesus name (traditions based on the Word of God)
Bad: man-made as opposed to the Word of God (the trinity)
Natural Inspiration (1st inspiration)
Totally denies the spiritual element in Scripture. Views the writers of Scripture as religious geniuses who possessed unique spiritual insight.
Spiritual Illumination (2nd inspiration)
Human authors are inspired in the same way as God inspires Christians today.
Partial Illumination (3rd inspiration)
This is when parts of the Bible are inspired in spiritual matters. Except historical, scientific, and other non-spiritual matters.
Conceptual Inspiration (4th inspiration)
God inspires authors with general concepts but left words and details to the human author.
Verbal Inspiration (5th inspiration)
This is when God inspires authors with each word, superintending even details.
Divine Dictation (6th inspiration)
Human authors just took dictation from God as He spoke.

Full Inerrancy
The Bible is completely true, but the Bible’s primary aim is to not make scientific or historical assertions, but theological and spiritual facts.
Limited Inerrancy
The Bible is only true in theological or spiritual matters, not scientific or historical matters.
