Oral cavity Flashcards
The oral cavity is lined by :
Stratified squamous epithelium
Vermilion border (free red margin) is found between junction of :
Outer & Inner surfaces of lip
The free red margin of lip (vermilion border) is non-keratinized with NO :
NO sweat glands, sebaceous glands, hair follicles
The labial(lip) & buccal(cheek) glands are :
Accessory seromucous salivary glands
Name the lingual papillae that Conical in shape & very Numerous :
Filiform papillae
Name the lingual papillae that mushroom shaped with few taste buds :
Fungiform papillae
Name the lingual papillae that surrounded by Deep groove & have numerous Taste buds :
Circumvallate papillae
Name the lingual papillae that poorly developed in man & rich in taste buds :
Foliate papillae
Name Serous Salivary glands which open in circumvallate deep groove :
Von Ebner’s
Neuroepithelial small organs, Situated in between stratified squamous epithelium, formed of 3 types of cells, In contact with fine nerve fibers that carry taste sensations :
Taste buds
Basically the same histological structure as the lip.
They are covered on the outside by skin and subcutaneous connective tissue, and lined on the inside by mucous membrane. The core is formed of skeletal muscle called buccinator. Buccal glands are seromucous salivary glands in the lamina propria.
