Oral Biology L2 - Biochemistry and molecular biology context Flashcards

1
Q

what is biochemistry?

A

the study of chemical processes relating to living organisms. helps us understand how organisms grow and replicate, and so can help us understand problems with growth, and disease processes.
- is the bridge between physical and biological sciences

Q

what is the central dogma of molecular biology?

A

the flow of genetic information within a biological system. It is often states as ‘DNA makes RNA and RNA makes protein.’
- not necessarily true for viruses

Information -> messenger RNA -> proteins with functions
