Option B Flashcards
Define flexibility
Suppleness, the ability to carry out a range of movement w/o stiffness/pain.
Define strength.
Idk
Define agility.
Ability to change directions efficiently.
Define speed.
How much distance is covered in a certain time.
Define stamina.
Endurance– ability to sustain an effort over a longer time.
Define fitness.
The physical condition of the body which suits it to the particular exercise which it performs: (2 types)
- health-related
- performance-related
Define VO2.
Oxygen uptake @ any time.
Define VO2 max.
HIGHEST POSSIBLE oxygen uptake for someone.
Blood doping V. EPO
- Blood doping: blood that’s injected for extra erythrocytes.
- EPO: erythropoietin, hormone made in kidney and stimulates bone marrow to make more erythrocytes.
Define stroke volume.
Volume of blood pumped OUT with each CONTRACTION of the heart.
Define cardiac output.
Volume of blood pumped OUT of the heart PER MINUTE.
Define venous return.
Volume of blood RETURNING to the heart (via veins) PER MINUTE.
Define heart rate.
of CONTRACTIONS of heart PER MINUTE.
Define tidal volume.
Volume of air taken in/out with each inhalation/exhalation.
Define ventilation rate.
of inhales/exhales PER MINUTE.
Define total lung capacity.
Volume of air in the lungs after a MAX INHALATION (how much you got)
Define vital capacity.
MAX volume of air that can be EXHALED after a MAX INHALATION. (How much you got after a vital situation like DROWNING.)
What happens when sarcomere contracts? (Visually)
- Z lines distance = SHORTER, bc myosin and actin have SLID over each other
- I band and H zone = SMALLER
Outline relationship b/w intensity of exercise, VO2, & the proportions of carb and fat used in respiration.
If exercising:
- Below 50% of VO2 max, FATS are used for energy.
- Higher intensity = CARBS
- Beyond VO2 max = ANAEROBIC resp
(Fats need more O to metabolize than carbs)
