Optics Quiz 1 Flashcards
What is light?
A steam of photons that are massless particles each travelling with wavelike properties at the speed of light.
What is a photon?
The smallest quantity of energy which can be transported
What are the 3 properties of light?
Light travels in straight lines, light does not need a medium to travel, in vacuum or air, speed of light is constant
what is the speed of light?
3.0 x 10^8 m/s
List the electromagnetic waves from highest to lowest frequencies
Gamma rays, x-rays, ultraviolet rays, visible light, inferred rays, microwaves, radio waves.
Why is it called visible light?
It is the only portion of the spectrum that our eyes have evolved to detect
What are the 4 types of light?
Chemiluminescence, Bioluminescence, Phosphorescence, Fluroescennce
What is the rectilinear propagation?
It is that light travels in a straight line as long as its travelling through the same medium.
