Optics Flashcards
What speed does light travel at
The speed of light
What is the law of reflection
The angle of incidence = the angle of reflection
What happens when a ray of light passes from glass to air and air to glass
As the ray enters the block it may refract
How does the light refract
The light refracts towards the normal as it enters and refracts away from the normal as it leaves the block
What are the colours in a visible spectrum
Red
Orange
Yellow
Green
Blue
Indigo
Violet
How can you remember the colours in a visible spectrum
ROY G BIV
What happens when light hits a prism or raindrops
When light hits a prism or raindrops it splits into different colours
What does the cornea do
The cornea is a clear layer at the front of the eye that refracts light
What does the iris do
The iris is a coloured muscle that alters the size of the pupil and controls the amount of light entering the eye
What does the lens do
The lens focuses light on the retina
What does the retina do
The retina is a light sensitive layer that converts light to electrical impulses
What does the pupil do
The pupil is a hole at the front of the eye that lets light enter
What does a convex lens do
A convex lens focuses the light on the retina to cure long sight
What does a concave lens do
A concave lens refracts the light outwards so it meets further back in the eye to cure short sight
What does a concave lens cure
Short sighted
