Optical Fibres Vs Satellites Flashcards
Why optic fibres are better than copper fibres?
Use less energy Need fewer boosters No cross-talk with adjoining cables Difficult to bug Less weight -> easier to install
Speed of microwaves
3 * 10^8 m/S
Speed of infrared in optic fibres
2* 10^8
Optic fibres Pros
Hard to hack, weigh less than copper wires alternatives and not interfered by neighbouring cables.
Data is good quality.
Optic fibres cons
Hard to repair under the sea
Satellite Pros
Stall rotes cover more of the Earth.
Geostationary stalleites will always stay in contact with the base stations.
Satellite cons
Easily intercepted (Time delay) Geosynchronous, when earth rotates, the signal is lost
As water gets shallower…
….wave speed decreases
What is geosynchronous?
Orbits earth in 24hr however the object in orbit only returns to the same position in the sky after a period of 1 day
Geostationary definition
Satellite remains above the same point in the Earth’s surface and takes 24 hours to complete an orbit. (Above equator and 36000km)
Most communication satellites are geostationary to keep a constant connection with the satellite dishes.
