what is optic neuritis
A
inflammatory condition - affects optic nerve

presentation of optic neuritis
A
- sudden visual loss - acute, unilateral, occurs over days
- pain on eye movement - can precede vision loss
- change in colour perception (dyschromatopsia) - red-green
- RAPD
- visual field defects inc central scotoma, altitudinal defects, arcuate scotoma, depression of sensitivity in all quadrants
- difficulty adapting to light
- uhthoff’s phenomenon
- bilateral less common
