what is the difference between preseptal and orbital cellulitis?

A

Preseptal is an infection of the eyelids and soft tissue anterior to the orbital septum (does not interfere with normal motility, pupils, visual acuity

Orbital is an infection posterior to the orbital septum- it can begin as preseptal (this does impair ocular motility)- this is a medical emergency
