Interview the child and family to determine whether it is normal or abnormal.

Supportive counselling and behaviour modification works effectively.

Look for and praise or reward ‘good’ behaviour. Praise (or chastise) behaviour rather than the individual.

‘Time out’ is the best disciplinary measure for those >18 mths (max. 1 min/yr of age) and withdrawal of privileges for those >6 yrs.
