A

-Yuliy Kim a typical musician who reacted to political events in his song writing - associated himself with the dissident movement in Moscow
-wrote a sing cycle called ‘Moscow kitchens’ which told how subversive thought was passed around in free discussions in the capital’s kitchens

-most managed some ‘legal’ work + it seemed the authorities of the period found their activities less potentially damaging to the regime

A

-a few expressed opposition to regime by seizing opportunity provided by K’s open relationship with the west to defect
-e.g. basket dancer Nureyev defected to Paris 1961 when on overseas tour - famously known for being a lead dancer with Kirov Ballet
