Q

Step 1: SITUATION

First 3 Points you need to touch on:

1-3

A

1) AO - Area of Operation (this is where we will physically be in) grid square
2) AI - Area of Interest (not anything within the AO, a defined geo area, they are things outside the AO that can affect the AO, populus just outside of the AO for example, or mortar section)
3) Weather - VWPCT. Reconnaisance = rain could be helpful, dry = dust clouds hard to see. Cold = additional uniforms. Worse conditions favor aggressive units.

Q

Step 1: SITUATION

2nd half of points you need

(e.g. like 8-13)

A

8) ENEMY - Composition - 6-9 man squad, Army regulars? Equipment? AK47’s, PKM’s, level of training, morale, etc.
9) DISPOSITION: COA, most likely COA, and most dangerous COA. Either they will withdraw, or more dangerous one is they will try to hold objective, They may have QRF 30 mins away
10) STRENGTHS/WEAKNESSES: They are decentralized so they can call in QRF or not, they are flexible. Weakness: They don’t have large support system, IDF, logistics support, may not have QRF

11) CIVIL CONSIDERATIONS: Are there civilians who could move inside AO, how do they look/dress, are they hostile? Friendly? Neutral? What’s your expectations, do you expect them there?

12) HIGHER UNIT MISSION:
Everyone in platoon must know how they fit in overall Commander’s Intent.
We must understand our Left/Right Elements: We are 1st Platoon, where are 2nd and 3rd PLT at? 2nd and 3rd will do operation to secure our flanks.
13) ATTACHMENTS/DETACHMENTS: Most common attachment is getting plussed up with some Engineers, Sappers, a combat multiplier. Has anyone been detached? Assault 2 squad moved over to 3rd PLT? If not, say none

Q

Step 1: SITUATION

4-7 Points you need to touch on

A

4) Terrain - OAKOC
- Obstacles = rivers, roads, things in your way
- Avenue of Approach = e.g. Heavily vegitated terrain difficult to move through
- AOA1, AO2 is from east to west e.g. has river alongside

5) Key Terrain, explain why it is key terrain, so hilltop could be key terrain, give the grid where it is located

6) Observation/Fields of Fire (e.g. thick vegetation, can only see 30 meters) (hilltop = unlimited FoF) give DISTANCES

7) Cover & Concealment (cover stops bullets, concealment just conceals you)
