Ophthalmic lenses Flashcards
Which way does a convex lens bend?
A convex lens will bulge outwards, like the back of a spoon
Which way does a concave lens bend?
A concave lens will curve away, like the front surface of a spoon
In optics, a convex surface is said to be what?
Positive or plus, and it causes light to become convergent, more convergent or less divergent
In
optics, a concave surface is said to be what?
Negative or minus, and it causes light to become divergent or more divergent or less convergent
What is a bi-convex lens?
Both sides have a convex surface, ie both surfaces bulge outwards
What is a bi-concave lens?
Both sides have a concave surface, meaning both surfaces bend inwards
What is a meniscus lens?
A lens that has both convex and concave surfaces. The positive convex surface on the front, the minus concave surface on the back.
