What is Operations Management?
The management process of creating goods and services for people to puchase, using the organization’s avaible resources
What is Productivity?
A meassure of a firm’s efficiency level of how well things are going in the organization
What is a Labour-Intensive Firm?
When an organization relies more on labourers to produce output
What is a Capital-Intensive Firm?
When an organization relies more on machinery and equipment to produce output
What are the 4 types of Operation Methods?
- Job Production
- Batch Production
- Flow Production
- Mass Customization
What is Job Production?
A method of production of a customized good or service that meets the needs of a specific customer. (Ex. The tailoring for Prince Harry’s royal attire)
What is an example of a service in Job Production?
Doctors, lawyers and teachers provide a personal service for customers and cater to the specific needs of their clients
What is Batch Production?
A method of production that involves producing a set of identical products, and then switching to another batch with slightly different alternations
What is an example of Batch Production?
Different flavoured oreos. It has the same chocolate-cookie base, but the fillings are different
What is Flow Production?
A method of production where different operations are continuously carried out in sequence
What is an example of Flow Production?
Heinz Beans, it’s an automated process where the same type of beans are put in the same type of can with the same type of label
What is Mass Customization?
An operation method that combines the benefits of mass production and the customization of job production
What is an example of Mass Customization?
The Hazbro personalized dolls of their customers
