Q

What is dynamic rollover, what are the conditions to get into it and how do we get out of it?

A

Rolling motion around a fixed point, (skid), when thrust of main rotor moves around that point creating an accelerated growth rate. After the CG passes the critical angle the helicopter rolls into its side. Slope landings or hitting a raised object when hovering sideways arecauses. The critical angle changes with roll rate, CG, & load changes. Recovery is to lower the collective before exceeding the critical angle.

Q

What is LTE?

A

Loss of thrust from tail rotor causing you to run out of left pedal one- 1-reingestion of own wash(330-210,left crosswind), 2-ingestion of main rotor down wash left quartering headwind 280-315 3-weathervaning 240/120 with a tailwind causing initial yaw4/ applying more power of requiring more antitorque demand than tail rotir is able to counteract due to density altitude of a lower rotor RPM state recovery is to lower power if altitude permits &fly out preferable continuing into right turn dont attempt a left turn has more power will be required

Q

What is required to do for VFr flight planning?

A

We have to identify the highest obstacle along the route of flight, notated on the DFL and plan to clear it by 300 feet today and 500 feet night.

Q

What do we have to do with this MSCA before we depart?

A

Used MSCA to determine what type of airspace we are going to be in, if cloud clearance requirements are met over the course of the route. This will determine whether we can accept the flight.

Q

Can you change course for your Planned route? What is that called?

A

Yes it is a diversion. A O21 allows diversions for weather for changing of mission requirements in flight.

Q

What is settling with power, the conditions conductive to get into it and how do you get out of it?

A

0 to 0 near zero airspeed,
at least 20% power and
300 ft./m or greater rate of descent.
Lower collective if able and fly out of it.

16
Q

How many medical crew members must be on goggles to operate to a unimproved area?

A

One crewmember on the opposite side of the aircraft for descent below 300 feet. This is not required for take off

17
Q

What is the definition of local area?

A

35 to 50 nautical miles centered around the base or other designated parts in AO 21

18
Q

What is required to use local area flying minimum in?

A

Local area exam with in 12 calendar months.

19
Q

What are the VFR weather minimums when operating in class G uncontrolled airspace from mountainous flights in the local area during the day? Night?

A

Day 800 feet and 3 miles, night with no goggles 1500 feet and 3 miles with goggles 1000 feet and three

20
Q

What are the VFF weather minimums when operating in class G uncontrolled airspace for mountain his flights outside the local area for day? Night?

A

Day – 1000 feet and 3 miles, night with no googles – 150o feet and 5 miles, with goggles – 1000 Feet and five

21
Q

The pilot must ensure that all terrain and obstacles along the route of flight, except takeoff and landing, are cleared vertically by no less then? During the day in? At night.

A

300 feet day and 500 feet.

22
Q

What are the steps involved in IIMC recovery procedure?

A

Maintain aircraft control, climb to MSA, D goggle when safely able, make all turns no greater than standard rate, contact appropriate ATC and declare an emergency – squawk 7700- Report location, altitude, heading, fuel, persons on board, IIMC and request assistance, complete the approach procedure to land in VMC land if no VNC then choose appropriate approach.

23
Q

What are the steps involved in maintaining aircraft control during a IIMC recovery?

A

Attitude- level, heading, – turn only to avoid known obstacles, power – Adjust to climb power, airspeed – Adjust declined airspeed

24
Q

What are the minimum cloud clearance and visibility requirements for SVFR operations in accordance with the Air Methods GOM?

A

Day – 700 feet into miles night – 800 feet and 3 miles. You need controlled airspace to the surface in order to be granted the clearance.
