What is an Operational Environment?
a composite of the conditions, circumstances, and influences that affect the employment of capabilities and bear on the decisions of the commander.
What does an Operational Environment include?
enemy, adversary, friendly, and neautral systems across the spectrum of conflict, they also include and understanding of the physical environment, the state of governance, technology, local resources, and the culture of the local population.
What is Persistent Conflict?
The protracted confrontation among state, nonstate, and individual actors that are increasingly willing to use violence to acheive their political and ideological ends.
What is a Hybrid Threat?
the dicerse and dynamic combination of regular forces, irregular forces, criminal elements, or a combination of these forces and elements all unified th acheive mutually benefitting effects.
What are Operational Variables?
Are those broad aspects of the environment, both military and non military, that may differ from one operational area to another and affect campaigns and major operations.
What are the 8 interrelated operational variables?
Political, Military, Economic, Social, Information, Infrastucture, physical environment, and time.
What are the 6 Mission Variables?
Mission, Enemy, Terrain & weather, Troops, Support Available, Time Available, and Civil Considerations.
What is an “Enemy”?
a Party identified as hostile against which the use of force is authorized. An enemy is also called a combatannt and is treated as such under the law of war.
What is an “Adversary”?
A party acknowledged as potentially hostile to a friendly party and against which the use of force may be envisaged.
What is a “Supporter”?
A party who sympathizes with friendly forces and who may or may not provide material assistence to them.
