- Pre-cleaning

- Penetrant Application
Penetrant is applied to a part under test in a manner appropriate to the type of part
- Excess Penetrate Removal
Removal of penetrant from the surface
Application of Developer
Application of developer can be spraying, dipping, or immersion depending on the developer used
- Inspection and Interpretation
The part shall be inspected and any discontinuities interpreted and evaluated to the applicable acceptance codes, standards, or specifications.
- Post Cleaning
The developer and any remaining penetrate materials shall be removed after interpretation

Shot blasting
Sand blasting
Power wire brushes
Penetrant Dwell time
The penetrant is left on the surface for a sufficient time to allow as much penetrant to be drawn into a defect. Dwell time is found in the inspection procedures. Minimum shall 5-30 minutes. For temps between 40-50F, dwell time shall be a minimum of 20 minutes
