Why did Hitler want to invade Russia

A

He saw communism as the enemy fascism and that the Slavs where racially inferior. He also wanted Lebensraum (living space) in the east.

One reason the Nazi never made it to Moscow

A

The extreme weather conditions froze oil supplies in tanks and froze horses. It also killed many German soldiers. More German soldiers died from frost bite then bullets.

What happened

A

Intense Urban warfare where enemies where meters from each other. The Nazis stormed the city and fought hand to hand combat. The Nazis then surrounded the Soviets in the city. The Soviets then surrounded the Nazis on the outside of the city and 300,000 soldiers of the 6th army where stuck inside.

Who surrendered the 6th army

A

Field Marshal Friedrich Paulus. He was a General during the Battle however after the counter offensive failed to break a hole in the surrounded soldiers he was ordered too fight too the death and he was promoted to field marshal and was told too kill himself. He went against the order and surrendered himself and the reminder of the 6th army
