Single user
Provides access to OS for one user at a time
Multi user
More than one user can access system at the same time- provided by a network
Multi tasking
Processor does more than one task at a time e.g. Enables user to write a letter and use internet at same time
Interactive
Provides direct user interaction whilst program is running
Real time
Developed for real time applications and typically used for embedded applications (systems within other applications)
Batch processing
Processes batches of data at regular intervals. The amount of data processes is usually large with data being identical
Distributed processing
A number of computers connected together with each computer completing part of the processing. When all the processing has been completed, the results are combined to meet the requirements of the user
