What is an operating system?
It is software that acts as an intermediary between the computer’s hardware and users and manages the computer’s hardware and software resources.
What is Microsoft Windows?
It is a Computer operating system developed and owned by Microsoft e.g Widows 8, Windows 7
What are some capabilities of operating systems?
-> They make it possible for multiple programs to run at once, enabling multi-tasking
-> They provide file management i.e they store, organize, and manage files and folders in the computer
-> They have built-in security features to protect the computer
What are the functions of operating systems?
Memory management: They are in charge of managing memory and dynamically allocating memory to programs
Process Management: Operating systems are responsible for creating, managing, and terminating processes and programs.
Input and Output Management: The operating system manages input and output devices and how they interact with the computer.
What are the limitations of Operating systems?
Operating systems have the following limitations:
-> They have limited available resources like CPU power and memory.
-> Out-of-date operating systems are vulnerable to viruses and malware
-> They are complex and difficult to use for unexperienced and new users
