Operating Procedures Flashcards
Define primary structures
The structure that carries flight, ground, loads, and whose failure would reduce the structural integrity of the airplane or may result in injury or death
Define secondary structures
These are not primary load-carrying members and their failure would not reduce the structural integrity of the aircraft.
Define tertiary structures
These components do not form an integral portion of the fuselage
What is the manufacturer’s datum point (MDP)?
The MDP is the point from which the manufacturer lays down the start of airframe construction and from where all measurements are taken.
What is the Trim datum point (TDP)?
The TDP is the reference from which load arms are measured
What can a FW aircraft in flight be regarded as in terms of aircraft weight and CofG?
A loaded beam
What is CofG?
The point of equilibrium
What is the mean aerodynamic chord (MAC)?
The average distance, from the leading edge to the trailing edge over the length of the wing
What is the leading edge MAC (LEMAC)?
The forward datum point of MAC (0%MAC), not to be confused with the well-known comedian, Lee Mack
How do you calculate MAC? (Not % MAC)
Gross wing area / wing span
What three types of aircraft load are there?
Variable load
Expendable load
Payload
What comprises basic weight?
Weight of structure, power plants and other integral a/c systems
Oils and hydraulics
Basic equip, common to all roles
Unusable fuel
What comes under variable load?
Additional role equipment
Additional crew
Loady equipment (NVGs, etc)
Galley supplies
What is expendable load?
Armanents Airdrops of cargo or personnel oxygen Domestic water Humidifying water
What is payload?
Cargo / pax carried all the way to a destination
What comprises Dry Operating Weight (APS Weight)?
Basic weight + light crew + variable load (Part 1 of trim sheet)
What comprises zero fuel weight?
DOW / APS Weight + Expendable load + Payload
What comprises All up weight at TO?
ZFW + Usable fuel at TO
What is Military Operating Standard weights (MOS)?
Increased weight limits for specifically authorised operational conditions in exceptional circumstances
When would an aircraft be re-weighed?
Engine changes
Major servicing
Modification or change of basic role fit
How do you calculate %MAC?
CofG Flt Stn - LEMAC / MAC x 100
What threats are there to a/c structural integrity?
Operational hazards
Corrosion
Stress corrosion cracking
What are the restraint factors for all directions?
Fwd = 3g Aft = 1.5g Vertical up = 2g Vertical down = 4g Laterally = 1.5g
What two types of beams will you find in the structure of an aircraft?
Transverse (lateral) floor beams
Longitudinal beams
What are the FuT’s lateral loading limits?
Outer panels - 1500kg
Treadway - 6000kg
Centre panel - 1600kg
What is the max PSI for a tyre without a floor protection kit?
100psi
What is the maximum axle load for the FuT?
4500kg per Axle (main floor and ramp)
What is the ramp limitation with ADS arms connected / Struts NOT deployed?
3000kg
