Operant conditioning Flashcards
what is a positive reinforcer
receiving a rewarding consequence for a behaviour which makes it likely for us to repeat that behaviour again
what is a negative reinforcer
avoiding a negative feeling or experience by taking part in a certain behaviour
what is positive punishment
receiving a negative consequence for a behaviour
what is negative punishment
taking away something pleasant as a consequence of behaviour
what are the two types of positive reinforcers?
primary and secondary
what is a primary reinforcer
a primary reinforcer are things that satisfy a basic biological need like food and water
what is a secondary reinforcer
things that have no survival value but we associate them with a primary reinforcer
what is a strength of operant conditioning?
it is applicable and generalisable because it can explain a wide range of crimes
what is a weakness of operant conditioning?
it is reductionsit because it doesnt consider alternate motives for crimes, this mean it could look validity because it isnt an accurate measure
what is social learning theory?
social learning theory explains that behaviour is a consequence of observing and modelling others around us
what are the 5 steps of the identification and modelling process
- attention
- retention
- reproduction
- motivation
- identification
what is vicarious reinforment
motivation to model the behaviour of someone who we see being rewarded for that behaviour+
