Operant Conditioning Flashcards
clip analysis of the Big Bang Theory
What are the three phases of Operant Conditioning
Antecedent, Behaviour, Consequence (ABC)
Outline the three-phase process of Operant Conditioning for Penny’s behaviour
Antecedent= Penny being in the presence of Sheldon
Behaviour= Penny speaking in a lower tone
Consequence= Sheldon rewarding Penny with a chocolate
In the clip, there was an incorrect reference to a type of consequence. Identify and explain what this was
Sheldon thinks spraying Penny with water is negative reinforcement however it is actually:
positive punishment - addition of undesirable stimulus, making the behaviour less likely to reoccur
Outline and explain the Consequence Sheldon uses in this experiment
Positive reinforcement - presenting the desired stimulus(chocolate), increasing the likelihood of the behaviour reoccurring
Evaluate how well this clip represented the psychological concepts of Operant Conditioning
This clip was good at showing how a person can be operantly conditioned using positive reinforcement however it fails to describe positive punishment correctly when referring to other consequences
What is the type of consequence? An employee who misses work suffers a cut in wages:
Negative punishment
What is the type of consequence? A child does their chores to stop their mum from nagging them:
Negative reinforcement
What is the type of consequence?Students who forget to turn in their assignment are given extra work:
Positive punishment
What is the type of consequence? A child is given extra computer time after doing their chores:
Positive reinforcement
