Definition of opera

A

Dramatic play-1/more acts. Character don’t speak but sing. Usually pre seated by an over-tune played by orchestra. Dialogue is rendered through recitative or singing. Arias are extended solo pieces. Ballet numbers and choir is often present. Most famous operas are in Italian, French, German. Most recent are in English/composers native language.

Differences between operas and musicals

A

Operas don’t usually contain a dialogue. Operas usually more dramatic, musicals more comic. Operas don’t use microphones, musicals do.
