1963-1964. Kline opposed it, though it was approved as a legitimate ministry at times.

Who was Gordon H. Clark?

A

A professor of Philosophy who sought ordination in the OPC in 1944. Originally, he did not pass. But eventually did. The main issue is that he claimed man has univocal knowledge with God.
- In 1945, the GA ruled that the presbytery of Philadelphia erred, but did not overturn the ordination
- Eventually, Clark and others left the OPC. OPC affirmed the transcendence of God and analogical knowledge.

A

In 1943. The primary reason is that it was composed of a wide range of evangelicals. Would lead to a least common denominator theology

What was the Peniel Dispute?

A

A dispute about the teachings of the Peniel Bible Conference regarding Sanctification and God’s guidance of believers.
- At the center of the dispute was G. Travers Sloyer, who in 1952 had his license revoked before eventually leaving the denomination in 1957
- A number of ministers in the OPC were part of it as well. The PBC was fuzzy on a few things, though claimed to be Reformed as a parachurch organization.

Who was Arnold S. Kress?

A

He was an OPC missionary who held to some of the teachings of Peniel. He was found in error by the Presbytery of Ohio for saying that the gift of tongues and prophecy may continue in the church.
- His was the first judicial case before the assembly in the history of the OPC, as he appealed to the GA in 1976
