How do you know the chart is reliable?
Check the chart number, edition for the edition number and latest corrections.
What do you do if the chart is not up to date?
I would check the cumulative list of NTM for the latest chart edition and all relevant corrections in the last 2 years and also the Annual summary of Notices to mariners for Ts & Ps in force for that chart and apply them as required.
What is contained in the weekly notices to mariner?
Section 1 - Explanatory Notes.
Section 2 - Updates to standard navigational charts.
Section 3 - Reprints of radio navigational warnings.
Section 4 - Amendments to admiralty list of sailing directions.
Section 5 - Amendments to admiralty list of light and fog signals.
Section 6 - Amendments to admiralty radio signals.
Section 7 - Digital services
Section 8 - Hydrographic notes
What is contained in the cumulative notices to mariners?
The Cumulative list is produced twice a year and provides the chart and edition number as well as all the notices applied over the last 2 years.
What is contained in the annual notices to mariners?
Part 1: Ts and Ps reprints
Part 2: Sailing directions corrections.
Miscellaneous corrections.
What if the chart is not WGS84?
Corrections can be applied to the GPS in accordance with the chart instructions.
What information would you get from the routeing chart?
The charts are divided into 12 monthly charts. Predominant tides and winds, mean sea water temperature, probability of restricted vis, ice limits, occurrence of TRS.
How would the wind be displayed on a routing chart?
It is provided as a wind rose, longer line equal how many observations in that direction
What is the difference between a mercator and a gnomonic chart?
Mercator lines of latitude are parallel as are lines of longitude.
Gnomonic meridians and lines are latitude are curved.
