What is an oophorectomy?
A
Surgical removal of one or both ovaries
Can be unilateral or bilateral

What risks are associated with oophorectomy?
A
Big 4
Damage to surrounding structures
Rupture of tumours (leading to spread of potentially cancerous cells)
Ovarian remnant syndrome (retention of ovarian cells continuing to cause symptoms e.g. pelvic pain, esp in pre-menopausal women)
Infertility
