Which gene is associated with the Y chromosome and what is the outcome of this

Week 7:
Female is the default pathway for embryos
- If a Y chromosome is present then the SRY gene is activated and the male pathway is activated
- With no Y, SRY is switched off and the default female pathway is taken

What is required and what is not-required for development of ovaries in a female embryo
A
Require: normal XX germ cells*
Not required: hormones - no endocrine activity
*Turners syndrome XO - oocytes die as normal development needs XX -> ovarian development needs oocytes so ovaries don’t develop properly

What are the stages of oogenesis
A
primordial germ cells (mitosis) > oogonia (mitosis) > primary oocytes (meiosis I) > secondary oocyte (meiosis II)
