Keywords, skim & scan, recognise adverts
How can you use search technology effectively?
Keywords: Use keywords and phrases that link to the ideas or topics you want to find content for.
Skim & scan: Skim or scan search results for which is likely to be the most relevant for what you want. Don’t just automatically click the top results.
Recognise adverts: Adverts often appear on search pages because that is how search companies (such as Google) make money. Look for small indicators (such as the letters ‘Ad’) to see which results are adverts. Only click on adverts if their description appears to be the most relevant for what you are looking for.
Online Safety
How can you build good online relationships?
Always be careful who you trust online and what information you share. People’s online identity might not be what they are like in real life.
Treat other people online how you want to be treated yourself
Digital Footprint
How can you find someone’s online reputation?
Use a search engine to find what is easily available about someone on the internet. This trail of breadcrumbs is called your digital footprint.
Once the information is there, it can never be truly deleted. For example, someone could take a screenshot of what was put online.
Golden rule: If you are not sure if you should share something, then don’t share it!
What are beliefs, opinions and facts?
Beliefs: Something you hold to be true, based on your experience in life. E.g. Your religious beliefs, how you believe people should behave towards each other.
