what is the internet?
a global computer network made up of interconnected computer networks - these are called routers
what is the web?
collection of info accessible through the internet. use browsers to access documents + web pages. navigation occurs through hyperlinks.

an application that runs on the internet - vast network of linked hypertext files stored on computers, stored with info on a huge variety of subjects.
what does it mean to be online?
be connected to the internet and having access to it
what is a data center?
cables and routers as the core of the internet- without these we wouldn’t have access to any data needing apps- eg TikTok, Pinterest
why do we need cables?
to transfer data to other countries and continents
what are the benefits of having cables under the sea?
allows us to transfer the data rapidly to further places and is less costly than for example, satellite internet.

what is a search engine?
a computer program with a graphical user interface for displaying and navigating between web pages
how can we make searching on the web easier?
- be specific
- use quotation marks eg “chocolate” “soap”
- use appropriate search engines
- basic math to narrow down results
- use advanced tools
what does BING stand for?
Because It’s Not Google
what do search engines do?
build up an index of results so that when someone searches something up they get related results
what is critical thinking?
the process of thinking carefully about a subject or idea without allowing feelings or opinions to get in the way
what is a hidden agenda?
people/web pages trying to persuade/influence your opinions and is not always obvious.
