Statistics
•In 2013, 3/10 households contained only one person
•40% of all one-person households are over 65. Men under 65 were most likely to live alone, then women over 65 were most likely to live alone
•By 2033, over 30% of the adult population will be single
Reasons for the Changes
•Following divorce, children are most likely tonlive with their mother, thus meaning the father more likely to leave
•Proportion of adults who are single has risen by half since 1971
-> more people are opting for “creative singlehood”
•Some may be alone due to a lack of bachelor(ettes) in their age bracket
LAT Families
Duncan & Phillips (2013) BSAs: 1/10 adults are in LAT relationships, where they are in a significant relationship but not married or cohabiting
-> both choice and constraint play a part in whether couples live together or marry, for example they may not have the funds or want their own house
•20% of people see LATs as their ideal relationship
