- Vomiting
- Abdo pain

Viruses, especially rotavirus and norovirus

- Risk of dehydration from inability to tolerate fluids and solids
- Lyte abnormalities

A selective serotonin 5-HT3 receptor antagonist
How long does it take for zofran to reach peak plasma concentrations when orally ingested?
1-2 hours
What is the most common side effect if ondancetron?
Diarrhea, which is usually mild, self limited and last less than 48 hours (no drowsiness)
What does a single dose of PO ondancetron reduce in children 6 months to 12 years with gastro and mild-mod dehydration who have failed ORT?
Reduced frequency of:
- vomiting
- IV fluid administration
- Possibly hospital admission

- Kids 6 months - 12 years
- Acute gastro induced vomiting
- Mild - mod dehydration
- Failed ORT
- Do not have mod - severe diarrhea
What is the one time weight bases dose of zofran that should be used for acute gastro induced vomiting?
2 mg PO if 8-15kg
4 mg PO if 15-30kg
6-8mg PO if > 30kg
How long after zofran administration should ORT be initiated?
Initiate ORT 15-30 min after dose given
