On-Road Evaluations Flashcards
1
Q
Closed-Route
A
- closed-course assessment
- typically done in an area without traffic and pedestrians (ex. vacated or limited access lot)
- assesses knowledge and understanding of vehicle features (mirrors, seat belts, seat positioning) and of vehicle control at low speeds (steering, braking, acceleration, parking)
2
Q
Open Road with Fixed Route
A
- open-course assessment
- uses neighborhood streets and intersections with naturally occurring traffic and other road users such as pedestrians
- tests drivers under the same environmental or infrastructure conditions (i.e. single or double lanes, fixed or signalized intersections), allowing for some control over extraneous variables encountered on the roadway
3
Q
Naturalistic Driving and Instrumented Vehicles
A
-assessment under real world conditions, with data collection occurring through vehicle instrumentation such as video feeds of the driver and driving environment and vehicle kinematics (i.e. speed or steering wheel movement collected via electronics and sensors)
