- A place of freedom, prosperity and success, in other words, the idyllic place
- Portrayed as the classless and not discriminative world not matter the background
- A place of liberty and equality and happiness

-This massive fall of economy caused mass unemployment especially in farms and land locations
- Many businesses went bankrupt which had a domino effect on all of the other businesses that relied on each other
- When you lost your job, you often lost everything also(house etc..) which caused you to live on the streets

1930’s California

- In the Great Plains, there was an increase of farming which resulted in poor minerals in the soil, which was then accompanied with a seven year old draught(Dust Bowl)
- Farmers then moved with their family and few belongings to California, which was said to be more promising
- The Californian farmers and natives detested the migrants but in addition, they were also met with poverty
