What was the 6 reasons why Oliver Cromwell was a good person?

A

He overthrew the Stuart monarchy
He ended illegal taxes like the ship tax
He made an effort to achieve ‘healing and settlement’ mean fair and efficient government for everyone
He didn’t become king even when the MPs and his supporters urged him
He was motivated by his religion - his puritan beliefs were genuine
He helped a stronger future for the country

What was the 8 reasons why Oliver Cromwell was a bad person?

A

He didn’t allow religious freedom eg banned religious festivals such as Christmas and Easter
He didn’t allow the theatre
He introduced a new tax on all the goods bought and sold called excise, which wasn’t approved by the parliament
He put Britain under military control and appointed eleven major generals to rule the country, which was unsuccessful and unpopular, he agreed to end it in 1657
He dismissed the parliament twice after many disputes with MPs
He punished people brutally
