Dust Bowl
A period of droughts and dust storms in the 1930’s that caused a bowl-shaped wasteland which destroyed crops, agriculture, and people’s lungs.
War Production Board
A Government Agency that manages the production of War Supplies, created by Franklin D. Roosevelt after Pearl Harbor.
Office of Price Administration
A part of the government that manages the prices of the Economy, making sure that the Prices don’t exceed a maximum, and that enough money is going towards the War.
Rationing
A system in WWII that prevented everyone from taking too many materials, saving enough food and resources for the War Effort.
War Bonds
A Piece of overpriced paper that you buy to give money to help with the War Effort, sort of like a donation.
GI Bill
A Bill that gives Veterans Support for their service in the War. It offers Financial Support, college, low interest mortgages
Truman’s Fair Deal
A set of Proposals from President Truman that helps the unemployed and poor of the country have a fair chance.
Levittown
A town made of mass-produced houses from William Levitt that built cheap housing, kind of like a bunch of LEGO sets ready to use. First on Long Island.
Federal Aid Highway Act
It gave a big government-funded highway system that gave transportation all over instead of the individual counties having to build their own roads. Created the Interstate Highway Systen.
Johnson’s Great Society
A war on poverty by Lyndon B. Johnson that creates a world where everyone can have affordable housing, mainly everyone being in the middle class, and he made a good amount of bills and orders to make this happen.
Head Start
A part of the Great Society where poor preschoolers had a 8-week preview on a middle class education.
Medicare and Medicaid
Government run health insurance programs that give people with a disadvantage cash for medical care. Medicare is for the elderly and the disabled, and Medicaid is for the poor.
Department of Housing and Urban Development
A department of the United States that makes sure that Urban life is constantly improving, and that smaller apartments for the people who can’t afford a giant house are always accessible.
Stagflation💀
When the country is in a time of Inflation, slow economic growth, and homelessness at the same time.
OPEC Oil Embargo and Energy Crisis
During a War in the 70s, some other countries stopped supplying energy and oil, and the US couldn’t keep up with the inflation and price changes.
