Background to the Sermon

A
  • Jesus’ ministry of teaching, preaching & healing resulted in great popularity.
  • Jesus goes into a mountain where he sets down to teach his disciples. The crowd evidently follows him, for they are amazed at his teaching at the end of Matt. 7.
  • The link between popularity & teaching is worth noting. Jesus’ ministry does not just provide for material needs but requires changed behavior as well.
