Oisín i dTír na nÓg - Abairtí AL Flashcards
There were three hundred men in Glenna Smól and they were cutting stone.
They could not because the stone was too heavy.
Bhí trí chéad fear i nGleann na Smól agus bhí siad ag baint cloch.
Ní raibh siad ábalta mar bhí an chloch róthrom.
They saw a strong, handsome man on a white horse and he helped them but fell off the horse.
As soon as his feet were on Irish soil he was old and blind.
Chonaic siad fear láidir, dathúil ar chapall ban agus chabhraigh sé leo ach thit sé den chapall.
Chomh luath agus a bhí a chosa ar thalamh na hÉireann bhí sé sean agus dall.
The workmen took him to St. Patrick’s. He said he was Oisín after Féinne. He then told his story
Thug na fir oibre é go dtí Naomh Pádraig. Dúirt sé gurbh é Oisín i ndiaidh na Féinne é. D’inis sé a scéal ansin
One day the the fianna were hunting. They saw in the sky a woman on a white horse.
She had a royal crown on her head, a silk dress with a red-gold star on her, her hair was the color of gold and her eyes were blue.
Her name was Niamh Chinn Óir and she came to Ireland because she was in love with Oisin, son of Finn and she put a spell on him to return with her to Tír na n’óg
Lá amháin bhí na Fianna ag seilg. Chonaic siad spéir bhean ar chapall bán.
Bhí coróin ríoga ar a ceann, bhí gúna síoda le réalta dearg-óir uirthi bhí dath an óir ar a cuid gruaige agus bhí dath gorm ar a súile aille.
Niamh Chinn Óir ab ainm di agus thánaig sí go hÉirinn mar go raibh sí i ngrá le hOisin, Mac Fhinn agus chuir sí faoi gheasa é filleadh léi go Tír na n-óg
Fionn was very sad because he realised that he would never see his son again forever
Bhí an-bhrón ar Fhionn mar thuig sé nach bhfeicfeadh sé a mhac go brách
They went on the white horse across the sea.
They went to the King of the Living.
The king had a daughter but she was a prisoner at Fómhar Bhuilleach.
Oisín was very brave and spent three days and three nights fighting him.
He killed him and set the king’s daughter free.
D’imigh siad ar an gcapall bán trasna na farraige.
Chuaigh siad go dtí Rí na mBeo.
Bhí iníon ag an rí ach bhí sí ina príosúnach ag Fómhar Bhuilleach.
Bhí Oisín an-chróga agus chaith sé trí lá agus trí oíche ag troid leis.
Mharaigh sé é agus lig sé iníon an rí saor.
They reached Tír na nÓg, a beautiful country, where there was an abundance of everything and there was no age or death.
The king and queen welcomed them.
There were ten days and ten nights, but then Oisín and Niamh were married.
Shroich siad Tír na nÓg, tír álainn, áit ina raibh flúirse de gach rud agus nach raibh aois ná bás ann.
Chuir an rí agus an bhanríon fáilte rompu.
Bhí feasta deich lá is deich n-oíche ach agus ansin pósadh oisín agus niamh.
They lived happily ever after. They did not age.
There were two sons and one daughter and
They spent three hundred years together in Tír na n’Óg.
Mhair siad go sona sásta ina dhiaidh sin. Níor tháinig aois orthu.
Bhí beirt mhac agus iníon amháin agus
Chaith siad trí chéad bliain le chéile i dTír na nÓg.
Oisín wanted to return home to see Fionn and the fianna again.
Niamh gave him a horse but she warned him- not to set foot on Irish soil. She gave him three warnings.
Theastaigh ó Oisín filleadh abhaile chun Fionn agus na Fianna a fheiceáil arís.
Thug Niamh capall dó ach thug sí rabhadh dó— gan a chos a chur ar thalamh na hÉireann. Thug sí trí rabhadh dó.
When he got home everything had changed.
He went to hAlmhain Laighean, where Finn lived, but there were only weeds and nettles.
Fionn and the Fianna were all dead and Oisín had spent hundreds of years in Tír na n’Óg.
He and the Fianna were only mentioned in the old stories
Nuair a shroich sé baile bhí gach rud athraithe.
Chuaigh sé go hAlmhain Laighean, áit cónaithe Fhinn, ach ní raibh ann ach fiailí agus neantóga.
Bhí Fionn agus na Fianna go léir marbh agus bhí na céadta bliain caite ag Oisín i dTír na nÓg.
Ní raibh trácht air féin ná ar na Fianna ach amháin sna seanscéalta
He left for glean na smól when he helped the men
D’imigh sé ansin go Gleann na Smól, nuair a chabhraigh sé leis na fir.
He lost his horse, his strength, his youth and his sight
Chaill de a chapall, a neart, a óige agus radharc na súl
Saint Patrick felt sorry for the blind old man. He told him he would go to Heaven. He then went with him learning the Gospel of God from Patrick and telling him stories about the fianna.
Bhí trua ag Naomh Pádraig don seanfhear dall. Dúirt sé leis go rachadh sé ar Neamh. D’imigh sé leis ansin ag foghlaim Soiscéal Dé ó Phádraig agus ag insint scéalta faoi na Fianna dó.
