When he got home everything had changed.
He went to hAlmhain Laighean, where Finn lived, but there were only weeds and nettles.
Fionn and the Fianna were all dead and Oisín had spent hundreds of years in Tír na n’Óg.
He and the Fianna were only mentioned in the old stories

A

Nuair a shroich sé baile bhí gach rud athraithe.
Chuaigh sé go hAlmhain Laighean, áit cónaithe Fhinn, ach ní raibh ann ach fiailí agus neantóga.
Bhí Fionn agus na Fianna go léir marbh agus bhí na céadta bliain caite ag Oisín i dTír na nÓg.
Ní raibh trácht air féin ná ar na Fianna ach amháin sna seanscéalta

Q

The first person shown to us is the Oisín as a young colored man. He is a strong and brave warrior

A

An chéad phearsa a léirítear dúinn na Oisín mar ógfhear dathúil. Laoch láidir cróga is ea é

17
Q

He is the Son of Fionn Mac Cumhaill, the leader of the Féinne. He spends his life hunting, drinking, playing chess and listening to music.
He has old experience of fighting as a member of the Fianna and is a fierce warrior who brutally slaughters the head of Fómhar Bhulleach.

A

Is Mac é le Fionn Mac Cumhaill, ceannaire na Féinne. Caitheann sé a shaol ag seilg, ag ól, ag imirt fichille agus ag éisteacht le ceol.
Tá seantaithí aige ar bheith ag troid mar bhall de na fianna agus is laoch fíochmhar é a bhaineann an ceann d’Fhómhar Bhuilleach go barbartha.

18
Q

He’s very loyal to his dad and friends

A

Tá sé an-dílis dá athair agus dá chairde.

19
Q

Niamh fell in love will him after hearing reports of him. He was happy to go with her to Tir Na nog

A

Titeann Niamh i ngrá leis fiú tar éis tuairisc a fháil air. Tá sé sásta imeacht léi go Tír na nÓg

20
Q

He is stubborn — he ignores what is said to him. He returns to Ireland after three hundred years to meet his father again.
He is still a young, charming hero until he falls off his horse and becomes a worn out blind old man.

A

Tá sé ceanndána — déanann sé neamhshuim de na rudaí a deirtear leis. Díleann sé go hÉirinn tar éis trí chéad bliain chun bualadh lena athair arís.
Is laoch óg, mealltach fós é go dtí go dtiteann sé den chapall agus déantar seanduine caite dall de.

21
Q

He loses his strength and he’s a pitiful character now
We have pity for him

A

Caileann sé a neart agus is duine truamhéalach anois é
Bíonn trua againn dó

22
Q

He’s happy to go around the country with St Patrick telling him stories

A

Tá sé sásta imeacht ar fud na tíre le Pádraig ag insint scéalta dó

23
Q

Oisín’s stubbornness is a central part of this story. However, although he is a loving son, lover and father, he has a habit of going his own way and leaving people sad behind.
This is seen throughout when he became Finn and the Deer and at the end when he became his wife and her letters

A

Tá cruachás Oisín ina cuid lárnach den scéal seo. Áfach, cé gur mac, leannán agus athair grámhar é, tá nós aige imeacht a bhealach féin agus daoine a fhágáil brónach ina dhiaidh.
Feictear é seo ag an fud nuair a fhágann sé Fionn agus na Fianna agus ag an deireadh nuair a fhágann sé a bhean agus a pháistí

24
Q

When he goes back to Ireland, despite Niamh’s advice, Oisín discovers that life changes a lot.
But Oisín is not able to change. He is haunted by loneliness. He is not comfortable in this new world and does not mix with the people.

A

Nuair a théann sé ar ais go hÉirinn, aibeoinn chomhairle Niamh, faigheann Oisín amach go bhfuil saol athruithe go mór.
Ach Níl Oisín ábalta athrú. Tá sé ciaptha ag an uaigneas. Níl sé compordach sa domhan nua seo agus ní mheascann sé leis na daoine.

25
Q

The character Oisín develops in the story.
He tells us the story of his life, how he met Niamh Chinn Óir, the journey to Tír na nÓg and the tragic end

A

Tagann forbairt ar an gcarachtar Oisín sa scéal.
Insíonn sé scéal a bheatha dúinn, mar ar bhuail sé le Niamh Chinn Óir, an turas go Tír na nÓg agus an chríoch thragóideach

26
Q

The Fianna were soldiers whose duty it was to protect Ireland

A

Ba shaighdiúirí iad na Fianna a bhí de dhualgas orthu Éire a chosaint
