What are bladed and sharply pointed articles?
Bladed: any article with a blade
- however a blade which doesn’t exceed 3 inches, folds away and does not lock in open position is exempt!!!
Sharply pointed - general meaning
Power of search in relation to bladed and pointed articles?
Section 50: may detain and search without warrant if you have:
- reasonable grounds to suspect they are in possession and is committing or has committed an offence.
Must inform them of the above!
Power of arrest?
Unconditional
Obstruction of search powers?
Same as other offensive weapons - offence if anyone
- intentionally obstructs or actively conceals.

Offensive weapons or bladed articles in schools..
S.49 (a)
Offence for any person to have with them on school premises:
(1.) An article with a blade or sharp point
(2.) an offensive weapon as described in s.47
Power of arrest = unconditional

It is an offence to have in a public place a bladed or pointed article.
