Dustbowl
An area of land where vegatation has been lost and soil reduced and eroded esp because of drought or unsuitable farming practice.

Segregation
the action or state of separating someone or something apart from others.
The great depression
A long, severe recession in an economy or market.
Marginalised
To make a group of people feel unimportant and isolated.
American Dream
the ideal by which equality of opportunity is available to any American, allowing thr highest aspirations and goals to be achieved.
Nomadic/ migrant
A person who moves from one place to another in order to find work or better living conditions.
Racism
racism is the belief that people of some races are inferior to others based on thr belief that one’s own race is superior. This results in discrimination and prejudice.
Foreshadowing
A literary device used to give a hint of what is to come later in the story.

Hierarchy
A system in which members of a society or organisation are ranked according to authority or relative status.
Isolation
The process or fact of isolating or being isoalted. Being alone/ apart from others.
Omniscient narrator
An all seeing and all knowing person who knows what is happening at all points and at all times of the story.
Protagonist
The leading character or one of the major characters in a book, play, film eg George
Loneliness
Sadness because one has no friends or company eg Curley’s wife.
