How did Circe help and hurt Odysseus?

A

She kept him on her island for over a year and they grew complacent. One of the men even died, which really hurt Odysseus. But she also helped them; she told them about Tiresias and helped them along their travels by telling about the monsters that lay ahead.

How did Odysseus feel during book 11?

A

Odysseus was in the land of the dead during book 11 and when he was there he saw many people including bloodied soilders, one of his own men, and his mother. Its heavily implied that Odysseus feel uneasy and fearful; but who wouldn’t? He’s surrounded by ghosts!

How does Odysseus’ character develop throughout part 1?

A

At the beginning of part one, he seemed arrogant and not in control of what he was saying but at the end of the part, we can see how he has grown a lot more to the point where he thinks about his crew and how things will affect them as well.

What do the monsters in book 12 represent?

A

The three different monsters are representant of different thing but together it can represent the specific fears that people in Greece feared at the time. For example, they all are involved with the ocean so perhaps they fear the uncertainty of the ocean.

What are some character traits of Odysseus?

A

Odysseus is very clever and is good at being a leader when needed. But he also can be very arrogant and selfish when his mouth gets ahead of him. This calls for some moments in the story when his impressive skills get overshadowed by his ego.
