Odysseus
The king of Ithaca, renowned for his intelligence, cunning, and resourcefulness. His journey home from the Trojan War is filled with struggles with many people. Every time he arrives at a new location, he expects gifts to be handed to him and to stay the night at every new location.
Telemachus
The young son of Odysseus and Penelope embarks on his own journey to find news of his father. His quest represents a coming-of-age story as he grows from a boy into a man ready to protect his mother and defend his father’s legacy. On his third attempt to kill Antinous, he could have shot the bow but decided to let his dad (Disguised as the beggar) do it instead.
Penelope
Odysseus’s loyal wife is celebrated for her faithfulness and intelligence. During her husband’s long absence, she cleverly fends off numerous suitors by weaving and unweaving a shroud, symbolizing her hope and fidelity to Odysseus.
Athena
The goddess of wisdom, courage, and warfare, favors Odysseus for his cleverness and often intervenes to aid him. She serves as his divine protector and frequently appears in disguise to guide him and assist Telemachus.
Calypso
A beautiful nymph who falls in love with Odysseus and keeps him captive on her island, Ogygia, for several years. Though she offers him immortality if he stays, Odysseus ultimately yearns for home, and she reluctantly lets him go after the gods intervene.
Alcinous
The generous king of the Phaeacians helps Odysseus by offering him hospitality and safe passage back to Ithaca. Listens to Odysseus’ tales and provides him with the necessary resources to complete his journey.
Poseidon
The god of the sea and Odysseus’s divine antagonist harbors a grudge against Odysseus for blinding his son, the Cyclops Polyphemus. His wrath causes much turmoil that delays Odysseus’s return to Ithaca.
Laertes
Odysseus’s elderly father, who lives in solitude on a farm, grieving his son’s prolonged absence. Upon Odysseus’s return, He is overjoyed and participates in the final battle against the suitors’ families.
Circe
A powerful enchantress who lives on the island of Aeaea. She initially turns Odysseus’s men into animals, but Odysseus resists her magic and eventually becomes her ally and lover. Circe assists him with valuable advice for the next steps on his journey. MY LOVE 😍
Eumaeus
(the Swineherd), Odysseus’s loyal servant exemplifies the values of loyalty and humility. He provides Odysseus with shelter and assistance upon his return to Ithaca, even before recognizing him.
Polyphemus
(The Cyclops), The one-eyed giant and son of Poseidon captures Odysseus and his men. Using his cleverness, Odysseus blinds him to escape, which incurs Poseidon’s wrath.
Antinous
The arrogant and aggressive leader of the suitors vying for Penelope’s hand, shows no respect for Odysseus’s household and is the first suitor Odysseus kills upon his return
Broadsea
A strong Phaeacian athlete who mocks Odysseus, challenging his honor and abilities. His challenge prompts Odysseus to demonstrate his prowess, revealing his strength and earning the respect of the Phaeacians.
Eurycleia
The loyal nurse of Odysseus and his family, recognizes Odysseus by a scar on his leg, marking the first moment of reunion. She remains steadfastly loyal to the household.
Tiresias
A blind prophet in the Underworld who offers Odysseus guidance on how to overcome his challenges and safely return to Ithaca. Prophecies provide vital warnings and instructions for the future of Odysseus’s journey.
