ODU Flashcards
What is speed
Speed is the distance an object covers in a set time
What is velocity
Velocity is the measure of the displacement covered in a set time
What is the horizontal component for resolving vectors
V=VcosX
What is the vertical component for resolving vectors
V=VsinX
What do you ice to remember 5 eq’s of motion
uVast
What does the gradient = in a displacement time graph
M= displacement/ time which = velocity
pg 9
What is Newton’s first law of motion
An object will remain stationary or move at a constant speed unless acted on by an unbalanced force
What is Newton’s second law of motion
F=ma
What is Newton’s third law of motion
If A exerts a force on B, B will exert an equal but opposite force back on A
If there is no acceleration on the lift what happens to the weight and tension
The tension will be upwards
And weight will be downwards
Unbalanced force= 0
If there is an upward acceleration
Reading= mg+ma
The tension increases
Weight will be constant
Meaning you feel heavier
If there is a downward acceleration
Reading= mg-ma
Tension will decrease
Weight is constant Meaning
Meaning you will feel lighter
For resolution of forces look at diagrams
Pg 19
forces on a slope
What is the equation if the weight is parallel
W=mgsinX
Forces on a slope
What happens when the weight is perpendicular to the slope
W=mgcosX
