Q

p75

A

Structurally unrelated receptor (unrelated to TrkA, B, or C) which can function alone or together with the Trk receptors to modulate neuronal responses to target derived neurotrophins. all neurotrophins bind to p75.

Q

Signaling Endosome

A

Model in which neurotrophins and Trk receptors in distal axons are internalized as ligand-receptor complexes into an endocytic signaling platform. These are retrogradely transported along microtubules back to neuronal cell bodies where they signal to control transcriptional events.

Q

NGF

A

Controls terminal arborization of peripheral neurons.

Expressed in peripheral targets innervated by sympathetic and sensory neurons.

Q

Ngf/Bax double mutant mice

A
  • Elimination of Bax + NGF allows assessment of NGF functions in axon growth without apoptosis that would be elicited by NGF deprivation.
  • Reduction of sympathetic and sensory innervation of several target tissues was observed in these mice.

Q

CREB

A

cAMP-responsive element binding protein, a transcription factor that is necessary and sufficient to support the survival of neurotrophin-dependent neurons, and also mediates axon growth in response to NGF.
