New Zealand Maori art context and main art forms

A

Last major land mass to be discovered and settled on by humans. The largest polynesian population. Belong o several different ‘Iwi’, of which the largest ‘Iwi’ are seperated into ‘Hapu’ (sub-clans).
Poutokomanawa figures, Poupou panels, Pare lintels & Manaia figures, Tauihu canoe figure heads, Hei Tiki pendants, Wakahuia treasure boxes.

Papua New Guinea the largest and most populous nation in Melanesia. One of the most linguistically diverse regions in the world. Arts extremely diverse.

Arts of Rapa Nui context and main art forms

A

One of the last places on earth to be discovered by humans, very small, no running water. A lot of environmental and human crises, population fluctuated between 15,000 to 38. Half enslaved and taken to Peru and 97% of the remaining population killed by introduced diseases.
