• *obsessions are internal/unwanted thoughts that are recurring and cause enx e.g. worries of being contaminated by germs
• awareness that thoughts/obsessions and compulsions are irrational, excessive and unreasonable
• hypervigilance is where ppl with OCD maintain constant alertness and attention on potential hazards e.g. germs
