what is intercuspal position (ICP)?
A
- the most comfortable bite where best fit of teeth occurs
- also called centric occlusion

what is Edge to edge (E)?
A
- teeth slide forward from ICP guiding on palatal surfaces of anterior teeth
- incisal edges of upper & lower incisors touch
- posterior teeth shouldnt make contact

what is protrusion (Pr)?
A
- condyle of mandible moves forward and downwards on the articular eminence
- only incisors +/- canines touch
- no posterior tooth contacts

what is maximum opening (T)?
A
- no tooth contacts
- mouth wide open
- full translation of the condyle over the articular eminence

what is the retruded contact position (RCP)?
A
- First tooth contact when mandible is in retruded axis position
- ICP is approximately 1mm anterior to RCP in 90% of population

what is meant by the working side during lateral translation of the mandible?
A
the working side is the side the mandible is moving towards

A
lateral translation of mandible
