Q

What is Bennet Shift?

A

The lateral moment of the mandible towards the working side during lateral excursion. *The flatter the cusp the greater the shift.

Q

What is Bennett Angle?

A

The angle obtained after the nonworking side condyle has moved anteriorly and medially, relative to the sagittal plane. *The flatter the cusp, the greater the side shift.

Q

What is a Odontoma? Complex vs Compound?

A

Odontoma = normal dental tissue that has grown in an irregular way.

Complex = is unrecognizable as dental tissues, (Unorganized) It usually appears in the posterior maxilla or in the mandible.

Compound = still has the three separate dental tissues (enamel, dentin and cementum), but may present a lobulated appearance where there is no definitive demarcation of separate tissues between the individual “toothlets” (or denticles). It usually appears in the anterior maxilla.

Q

What is concrescence and where is it commonly found?

A

Union of 2 or more teeth through cementum only.

  • Most commonly found in the permanent molars.
  • Fusion involves enamel and dentin, and occurs prior to eruption.

Q

What are Enamel tufts?

A

areas of hypomineralization that extend from the DEJ up to 1/3 the the thickness of the enamel layer.

Q

What do enamel tufts, spindles and lamellae all have in common?

A

They are all caused by enamel hypo mineralization and are NOT related in caries susceptibility.

Q

What is Microdontia? False vs. True?

A

Microdontia = teeth are small.

True Microdontia = all teeth are small.

False microdontia = peg laterals and small maxillary 3rd molars are most common
